What it does
TAL-Vocoder is a free vocoder that recreates the sound of early 1980s hardware vocoders, mixing analog-modelled parts with digital algorithms.
- Vocoder: 11 bands, each with its own volume control.
- Shaping: a harmonic control for adding overtones to the carrier and a "smudge" control for envelope follower speed.
- Built-in carrier: a VCO with saw, pulse, sub-oscillator and noise, in poly or mono mode with portamento.
- Extras: a stereo chorus.

When to use it
Use it for classic robot vocals and talking synths in the vein of 80s electro, synth-pop and electronic music. Because it includes its own carrier synth, you can play it from a MIDI keyboard without needing a separate synth track.
