What it does
TAL-DAC is a lo-fi processor that brings back the character of 1980s samplers and other low-fidelity devices, from subtle tonal change to heavy degradation.
- Bit depth and sample rate: 4 to 16 bit and 500 Hz to 48 kHz.
- Converter behaviour: several encoding algorithms (mu-law, linear, delta) and reconstruction filters (hold, variable, linear and an S1000/sinc type).
- Colour: an input stage with a soft clipper, saturation and drive stages, and 12 dB high and low shelves.
- Extras: optional 8x oversampling.

When to use it
Use it when you want the grit of an old sampler's converters rather than a generic bitcrusher, because the encoding and reconstruction stages shape the sound as well as the bit depth. It suits hip-hop and lo-fi beats, chiptune-adjacent textures, and drums or loops that need a crunchy 80s sampler feel.
