What it does
Obscurium is a "Generative Synthesizer" that Sugar Bytes calls an "Avantgarde Sound Design Tool." You feed it scales and chords, and it produces moving harmonies and soundscapes.
- Sound engine: 8-voice synthesis with saw, pulse, supersaw and FM.
- Generative harmonies: generates harmonies from scales and chords, or plays straight from MIDI input.
- Hosting and MIDI out: host and control VST2 plugins, or send the generated notes out as MIDI.
- Variation: draw tools, modifiers, parameter shifting and a Super Obscure mode.
- Presets: 400 presets across pads, drums and atmospheres.

When to use it
Obscurium is the pick when you want the instrument to write the harmonic movement for you, or to drive other VST2 synths generatively. Where Sugar Bytes' own Aparillo is the FM drone and texture synth, and Pigments 7 and Absynth 6 are broader sound design synths with deep modulation, Obscurium centers on generative harmony.
- Best for: evolving pads, atmospheres, generative drones and experimental sound design.
- Genres: ambient, cinematic and electronic.
- Look elsewhere if: you need precise, predictable patch programming or conventional leads and basses.
- Standout: generative harmonies from a scale or chord, fed to its own engine or to hosted plugins.
What producers say
The few KVR user reviews are positive, calling it powerful but hard to plan around.
- KVR users gave it 5/5 in two reviews: one (2020) called it "a beast" that "may be overwhelming at first"; another (2019) said you rarely go in "with an extremely detailed plan in mind."
- Gripe: the same reviewers note the learning curve and the unpredictable results.
