What it does

Nest is Sugar Bytes' "DIY Sequencer": a patchable MIDI sequencer whose modules are inspired by classic integrated circuits and modern computer functions. Instead of a fixed grid, you build the logic that generates the notes.

20+ modules: wire modules on a Wire page to create clocks, counters, logic and note generators.
Voices: eight MIDI voices assignable to four targets, on up to 16 MIDI channels, with MIDI CC and automation.
Hosting: load up to four VST2 plugins inside Nest, or use its internal synths and drums.
Scenes and scales: 12 patch scenes with MIDI recall and a flexible scale system.
Outputs: five stereo multi-outs for mixing the hosted sounds separately.

When to use it

Nest suits people who want generative, rule-based patterns they design themselves, closer in spirit to Softube Modular than to a step grid. It is less quick than Cthulhu for chord memory and arpeggios, and unlike MidiShaper, which modulates plugin parameters, it writes notes.

Best for: generative melodies and rhythms, evolving patterns for synths, and experimental sequencing.
Genres: electronic and ambient music, and sound design.
Look elsewhere if: you just want chords or a simple step sequencer; Nest takes patching to get results.
Standout: the modular wiring approach, which lets you build a sequencer rather than use a fixed one.
