What it does
GReverb is a free algorithmic reverb from Strange Audio. The developer calls it a "true algorithmic reverberator" for anything from small ambience to supermassive spaces, with a modulated tail as its main character.
- Algorithmic engine: one reverb engine that scales from short room ambience to very long, huge decays.
- Decay: sets the length of the reverb tail.
- Tail modulation: adds movement to the reverb tail, which suits sustained synths and pads with long decays.
- Early shape: shapes the early part of the reverb, before the tail takes over.
- Gain staging: separate input and output gain controls.
- More parameters since 1.1: version 1.1 exposed controls that the early alpha kept hidden; the developer says the core engine itself did not change.
The current version is 1.4. It is free and distributed through Gumroad.

When to use it
GReverb is a free option for big, moving tails, in the same territory as Valhalla Supermassive but with a much smaller set of controls and no named modes. Unlike VintageVerb or Pro-R 2, it is not built as a precise mixing reverb with room types and EQ shaping; its strength is a musical, modulated decay on long sounds. Since it costs nothing, it is easy to try alongside Supermassive and keep whichever tail you prefer.
- Best for: long, modulated reverbs on synths, pads and ambient material.
- Genres: ambient, cinematic and electronic.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a transparent, detailed mixing reverb (Pro-R 2) or classic hall and plate character (VintageVerb).
What producers say
KVR users like its sound on long synth tails, though one found later versions harder to set up; it is rated 3.5 out of 5 from 2 KVR reviews.
- KVR users called it "surprisingly great-sounding" and its modulation "so musical" on synths with long decays (4 out of 5).
- Criticisms: a 3-out-of-5 KVR review found version 1.1 "harsher and more cluttered" than the alpha and said it needs "much more tweaking"; the developer replied that only the exposed controls changed, not the engine.
