What it does
Fe26 is Stillwell Audio's transformer saturation plugin, billed as "transformer stage, done right." It models a level-dependent, program-sensitive transformer circuit, so the amount of colour follows the signal rather than a choice of presets.
- Single drive control: one continuous Drive knob with no modes or menus to choose from.
- Gain staging: Input and Output controls, with a Link option.
- Oversampling: an optional 4x oversampling setting.
- Level-dependent response: louder passages push the transformer harder, so the effect breathes with the material.
- Low settings: close to transparent, adding density without obvious colour.
- Pushed harder: the low end firms up without bloat and the highs soften naturally, without layered processing.
- Any source: meant for DI tracks, buses and full mixes.
This is version 4.1.3. Updates are free with no subscription, and a free evaluation copy is available.

When to use it
Fe26 is the narrow, set-and-forget choice: one transformer model and one Drive knob, aimed at weight and glue rather than obvious distortion. Compared with True Iron (Kazrog), it gives you no choice of transformer types or tone shaping, but it is quicker to dial in. It is gentler and far more focused than Decapitator (Soundtoys), which offers several saturation styles up to heavy distortion. Next to IVGI (Klanghelm), it trades IVGI's character and asymmetry controls for a single program-dependent response.
- Best for: adding weight to DI bass, guitars and vocals, and gentle density on buses and the mix bus.
- Genres: any; it is a general mixing tool.
- Look elsewhere if: you want several saturation types or heavy distortion (Decapitator), or a choice of transformer models (True Iron).
