What it does
BiG widens the stereo image without the phase cancellation problems that hurt mono compatibility, and adds bass enhancement.
- Controls: Range (filter frequency), Stage (slope and bandwidth) and Bigness (blend).
- Bass: a bass boost circuit inspired by SPL's AirBass.
- Stereo processing: not mid/side based, with M/S metering, mid/side solo and panorama controls.
- Also: automatic gain compensation and very low CPU use. SPL notes it won a 2024 TEC Signal Processing Award.
When to use it
BiG is for making a mix or instrument wider and fuller while still summing well in mono. It has only three main controls.
- Best for: mix bus, synths, guitars and pads.
