What it does
Originals Intimate Brass is a low-cost Spitfire Originals library of a four-player brass group recorded in Lyndhurst Hall at AIR Studios. It goes for "warm and delicate articulations" rather than power, with each instrument voiced to blend within its best range.
- Instruments: tuba, euphonium, tenor trombone and flugelhorn, played together as one blended section.
- Long presets: Long, Long Hollow, Long Swells and Long Air.
- Short presets: Short Tenuto, Short Marcato and Short Staccato.
- Mic signals: Close (a detailed spot-mic blend), Mix (a spacious hall blend) and Vintage (run through vintage gear and effects for character).
- Controls: reverb on every preset, release on the long presets and tightness on the short presets.
- Companions: designed to pair with Originals Intimate Woodwinds and Intimate Strings.
It runs in the free Splice INSTRUMENT plugin. It is also included in the Splice INSTRUMENT subscription, and Spitfire's build-your-own Originals bundle gives a fifth product free when you buy four. No trial is listed.

When to use it
Intimate Brass is the pick for soft, warm brass chords and pads at a very low price. Compared with the brass in BBC Symphony Orchestra Core or Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, it has no separate instruments, no legato and only seven presets, but its gentle long notes, swells and air textures are its whole focus. Its unusual line-up of tuba, euphonium, trombone and flugelhorn gives a rounder, darker blend than a standard horn or trumpet section. With its very low price and small size, it is easy to add next to a full orchestra.
- Best for: warm, quiet brass chords, swells and pads under film, TV and game music.
- Genres: cinematic, ambient and gentle orchestral.
- Look elsewhere if: you need loud, heroic brass, individual players or legato lines; BBC Symphony Orchestra Core or Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition cover that.
