OPW is a composing toolkit from Spitfire Audio and composer Oliver Patrice Weder, mixing prepared piano, Wurlitzer, flugelhorn, pads and percussion.

Best for: Keys & Synths, Acoustic Instruments, Sound Design. Genres: Ambient & Cinematic, Electronic & EDM.

Keywords: pads, electric piano, intimate, textures, sample-based, drum machine, film & game audio, strings, cinematic, creative, dreamy, evolving, heavy, perpetual licence, sound design, tempo-synced, world instruments.

What it does

OPW is a Spitfire Audio library curated by composer Oliver Patrice Weder and released alongside his debut album. Spitfire calls it "an emotive & intimate composing toolkit", blending acoustic instruments, some pure and some heavily treated, with electronics. It was recorded in Weder's Amsterdam studio and in Madrid.

Oliver's Piano (9 presets): Weder's own piano, including prepared and treated versions.
Flugelhorn (4 presets): with marcato and muted options.
Electronics (12 presets): tempo-synced parts with atmospheric delays and reverbs.
Swells (12) and Pads (2): evolving textures and dreamy pads.
One-shots (7 presets): Wurlitzer 200A (played through effects pedals) and bell sounds.
Percussion (13 presets): hits and loops, including world percussion from Rio de Janeiro and drum machines.
Other sources: strings from the London Contemporary Orchestra and synthesisers.

In total there are 59 presets built from about 771 samples. The licence is perpetual. It runs in its own Spitfire plugin, so no Kontakt is needed. Students and educators get 40% off; no trial is listed, but the product page has audio demos and a walkthrough video.

When to use it

OPW is the better pick when you want one small, personal palette for a whole cue: piano, keys, flugelhorn, pads and percussion that already sit together. Compared with BBC Symphony Orchestra Core, it has no full orchestra or articulation set; it trades realism and scope for intimate, treated colour. Unlike Trilian or MODO BASS 2, which go deep on one instrument, it covers many sounds lightly with fixed presets. Its sister library The Pool Project leans more on voices and woodwinds, while OPW leans on piano and electronics. It is an easy add-on for sketching moods.

Best for: intimate film and TV cues, neo-classical and electronica sketches, songwriting beds.
Genres: cinematic, neo-classical, ambient, electronic.
Look elsewhere if: you want one deeply sampled piano or a full orchestra; a dedicated piano library or BBC Symphony Orchestra Core suits that.

What producers say

Sample Library Review's first look was positive, calling it a versatile companion to The Pool Project.

Sample Library Review praised the variety across the 59 patches, from one-shots and loops to flugelhorn, Wurlitzer, strings and drum machines.
Verdict: it said these sounds "will add depth and inspiration to many scores and songs", and called Weder's libraries "little gems".
