What it does

Impressionism is Spitfire Audio's texture library made to mark 150 years of Impressionist art. It was recorded at AIR Studio 1 with UK players through a vintage analog chain, using unusual instrument pairings whose notes "evolve across three distinct phases," and is built for quick sketching rather than detailed part-writing.

It runs in Spitfire's dedicated plugin. It has a 40% student discount.

When to use it

Impressionism is for colour rather than lines: shimmering, evolving combined textures that sit under or around a score. Compared with BBC Symphony Orchestra Core, which gives standard sections and articulations for writing parts, it hands you pre-blended instrument groups whose notes develop on their own. Unlike Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition it is not a full orchestra, with no violins, horns or trumpets. Compared with Arturia's Augmented STRINGS, which mixes strings with synthesis, it stays acoustic and adds winds, low brass and tuned percussion.

What producers say

Reviewers praise the sound and playability but see it as a specialist library rather than an all-purpose one.
