What it does
Murmur is a granular synth from Sounds Like You that turns samples into playable grain-based sounds. There is a free version and a paid one.
- Grain engine: up to 200 grains a second, 10-500 ms long, with density, size, pitch and spread.
- Layers: morph between two sounds in six modes (paid).
- Magnet: pulls grains onto the transients of a sample so breaks stay rhythmic.
- Slice mode: spreads detected onsets across the keyboard.
- Walk sequencer and effects: a step sequencer (paid) and a reorderable rack of filter, saturate, squash, chorus, phaser, delay and reverb.
The free version has the grain engine, Classic and Slice modes, scale lock and 16 voices. The full version adds morphing, Layer B, Cohere, the Walk sequencer, Repeat and preset saving.

When to use it
Try the free version first if you want granular textures from your own samples. It handles drum loops better than most granular synths thanks to Magnet, which makes it useful for both textures and rhythmic material.
