What it does
Wave Warper 2 is SoundMorph's sound design plugin for whooshes, movement and transitions. You trigger up to eight sound emitters and shape their motion and tone in real time, mostly from an XY pad; SoundMorph pitches it as "Dynamic Sound Creation" for whoosh and movement design.
- Eight emitters: triggerable sound sources that can be layered into one effect, with random allocation of samples from a folder.
- Engines and sources: granular synthesis, wavetable and noise synthesis, a sample library, and import of your own sounds.
- XY pad: real-time mapping of an XY pad to sound parameters, so one gesture can move several parameters at once.
- Triggering: three trigger methods (Loop, MIDI and Sequencer, with a built-in step sequencer) and two playback modes: On for free playback, or On When Playing to follow the DAW transport.
- Modulation: five modulation types on parameters, including an LFO and envelope follower busses, linked through an internal bus routing system.
- Space and effects: binaural panning for movement around the listener, plus reverb.
- Presets: 85 presets to start from, with save and recall.
The current version is 1.1.0. A demo is available that adds periodic white noise and disables preset saving.

When to use it
Wave Warper 2 is built only for movement effects, so a pass-by, riser or transition takes a few gestures on the XY pad rather than a patch built from scratch. Compared with Omnisphere 3 or Phase Plant, it has a much narrower scope and is not designed as a playable melodic synth, but its emitters, binaural panning and envelope followers are set up for exactly this job. Against Pigments 7 it trades general synthesis depth for a faster route to whooshes, and it costs less than any of those three. It is best for game, film and trailer sound designers who need many movement variations quickly.
- Best for: whooshes, pass-bys, risers, transitions and moving textures for film, games and trailers.
- Genres: cinematic and electronic music, and media sound design.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a playable synth for leads, pads and basses; Phase Plant or Pigments 7 are far more flexible.
