Oxford TransMod by Sonnox

A transient modulation plugin that emphasizes or softens the attack of drums, bass, vocals and other instruments.

Attack, Overshoot and Rise Time controls give finer control over the shape of each transient than a basic attack knob, while aiming to leave the tone unchanged.

Best for: Drums, Drum Bus, Bass, Acoustic Instruments, Vocals. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: drums, bass, punchy, vocals, visual feedback, bus processing, corrective, deep, drum bus, enhancement, mixing, single-band, transparent.

What it does

Oxford TransMod is Sonnox's transient modulator: "a detailed tool designed for shaping transients with precision in any production." It can add punch to drums and bass or soften the attack of acoustic instruments.

When to use it

TransMod competes with SPL Transient Designer Plus and Softube Transient Shaper. It is less quick than the SPL with its attack and sustain knobs, and it has no sustain control, but it gives more say over the shape and timing of the attack itself. Unlike Sonnox's own Oxford Envolution or Newfangled Punctuate, it does not offer frequency-dependent attack and sustain shaping.

What producers say

Reviewers and users like its in-depth transient control on drums; the main complaints are confusing parameters at first and no sustain control.
