What it does

S-Console is Sonimus' large-format console emulation, inspired by SSL 4000-series solid-state desks. It is meant to go on every channel and bus of a session, adding saturation, soft clipping and crosstalk for a glued, "authentic analog summing" sound.

Version 1.0.0 works in mono and stereo, at up to 192 kHz. The product page offers a demo download. CPU use is low, so it can run on a whole session.

When to use it

S-Console is the better pick when you want SSL-style console colour across a whole mix without loading full channel strips. Compared with bx_console SSL 4000 E and SSL Native Channel Strip 2, it has no EQ, gate or compressor; it focuses on drive, crosstalk and summing, and costs less. Compared with Slate's Virtual Mix Rack it is a single, fixed console sound rather than a rack of modules. Its Master Grouping panel makes it quicker than most strips to adjust drive on many tracks at once, and its low CPU load suits large sessions.

What producers say

Early coverage treats it as a capable, low-cost and light-on-CPU way to add console colour, with the missing EQ and dynamics the main caveat.
