What it does
V4LVE is a multiband saturation and distortion plugin from Sonic Academy. The idea is to give each frequency band its own drive and distortion type, so you can build "unique and complex distortions" without muddying the whole signal.
- Tube models: AT7 (smooth and subtle), AU7 (full and thick) and AX7 (bright and aggressive).
- Analogue enhancers: Tape for glue, Trans for weight and firmness, and Inflate for a louder, denser sound.
- Waveshaping: Tanh for shaping and Fold for complex, animated tones.
- Modern aggression: WK for tight, focused drive and Hi Gain for heavy saturation.
- Multiband routing: adjustable bands with selectable roll-off, processed in parallel or in series, with drive, mix and gain per band and solo for checking a band.
- Mid/side: distort the mid and side signals separately, for example to keep the centre clean while widening the sides.
- Output and extras: an optional master limiter, over 50 presets, and light or dark interface modes.

When to use it
V4LVE is a good pick if you want multiband drive with a clear, named set of characters at a low price. Compared with Saturn 2 it has fewer distortion styles and no modulation system, but it is simpler to set up and much cheaper. Unlike Thermal, which leans into creative, moving destruction, V4LVE is built more for controlled thickening and grit. Its mid/side mode and per-band mix let you keep the low end or centre clean while driving the rest. With only ten types, it covers less ground than Saturn 2 for extreme sound design.
- Best for: multiband drive on bass, drums and synths, and adding grit to parts of a bus while keeping the low end clean.
- Genres: electronic, house and techno, drum and bass, and hip-hop.
- Look elsewhere if: you need modulation, envelope following and deep band control (Saturn 2), or animated, glitchy distortion (Thermal).
