smart:gate
by sonible · Gate · AI-assisted gate
vst3s Score 9.2/10 · rated #2 of 10 gates & expanders
AI-assisted gate that separates the wanted signal from bleed and noise and suggests gating settings based on the source. Part of the smart: series.
Best for: Drums, Vocals, Guitars. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: AI/machine learning, vocals, drums, electric guitar, mixing, downward expansion, piano, single-band.
What it does
smart:gate gates a chosen source in a mix by recognising it, rather than just reacting to level.
- Target selection: pick vocals, guitar, piano and other sources from profiles.
- Suppression: three-band network.
- Extras: level bias for transients, ducking mode, Instant Replay, and a conventional gate mode.
- Latency: about 80 ms.
When to use it
For cleaning bleed and noise from multi-mic recordings where a level gate would chatter, such as vocals over a loud band or drum-room bleed. The latency and AI approach make it a mixing tool rather than a tracking one.
