An algorithmic plate reverb with SSL-designed early reflections and a late reflection model of a mechanical plate's damping, with decay from 100 ms to 3 seconds.
Colour, ducking, freeze and kill controls and zero latency make it usable while tracking as well as mixing.
Best for: Vocals, Drums, Guitars. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: plate, low latency, ducking, tracking, zero-latency, freeze, mixing, vocals, electric guitar, hardware emulation, modern, algorithmic, bright, classic, drums, lush, room, sidechain input, snare.
What it does
PlateVerb offers "the sound of classic plate reverb with modern features," built around an SSL-crafted early reflections algorithm and a plate-modeled late tail.
- Algorithms: bespoke SSL early reflections plus a late reflection algorithm modeling the mechanical and damping properties of a plate.
- Tail shaping: Early/Late blend, Diffusion, Decay (100 ms to 3 s), Room Size and low and high damping.
- Colour: harmonic adjustment that emulates different plate materials.
- Ducking: sidechain ducking from the internal or an external signal.
- Extras: Mix control, Freeze and Kill functions, and zero latency for tracking and monitor mixes.
The current version is 1.2.2. A 14-day trial is available.

When to use it
Pick PlateVerb for an affordable, zero-latency plate with ducking and freeze built in, rather than UAD EMT 140 Classic Plate Reverberator and Waves Abbey Road Reverb Plates, which model specific hardware plates, or Valhalla Plate and Soundtoys SuperPlate, which offer many plate variations.
- Best for: vocals, snare and guitars that need a bright plate, including while tracking.
- Genres: pop, rock, R&B and most modern genres.
- Look elsewhere if: you want strong visual feedback or tail saturation and modulation editing; MusicTech found both missing.
- Standout: zero latency plus built-in ducking at a low price.
What producers say
MusicTech rated it 8/10, liking the lively sound in context but not the plain interface.
- MusicTech (2023) called it "a lush-sounding reverb that offers an extra plate flavour."
- In a mix: the same review said "PlateVerb redeems itself when you start to mix with it."
- Gripe: the grey interface has no useful visual feedback, and tail saturation and modulation cannot be edited.
