What it does
Module8 is SSL's "essential FX rack" for modulation: six LFO-driven effects and two creative returns for adding texture, depth and movement.
- Six modulation modules: Phaser, Flanger, Chorus, Tremolo, Vibrato and Pan.
- Lo-Fi and Space: two creative FX return modules for degradation and ambience.
- Reorderable chain: drag-and-drop module order.
- LFOs: five LFO shapes with tempo sync or manual rates.
- Global controls: overall mix and width, plus a large preset library.
The current version is 1.2.2.

When to use it
Module8 covers the classic modulation effects in one chain. Choose it for a low-cost, focused set of modulation effects with a simple reorderable layout, rather than Soundtoys Effect Rack, which combines Soundtoys' individual processors like PhaseMistress and MicroShift, or Kilohearts Multipass, a broader modular multiband rack.
- Best for: adding movement to vocals, guitars, pads and synths, and quick sound-design chains.
- Genres: electronic, pop, lo-fi and indie.
- Look elsewhere if: you need multiband processing or complex modulation routing.
- Standout: the Lo-Fi and Space modules alongside the modulation effects.
What producers say
Reviewers liked the sound and ease of use; one noted most effects already exist in a DAW.
- Production Expert (2024): all three reviewers voted it a hit (Gold Award); one said it "absolutely stands up to" Soundtoys in quality and tweakability.
- MusicRadar (2024): called the effects "clean, dramatic when you need them to be, and very flexible."
- Gripe: MusicRadar said it is not essential since most of the effects are in DAWs, and some presets may be too crunchy.
