What it does
GateVerb is "a non-linear gated reverb that gives your tracks added depth and punch, all while maintaining a super clean mix."
- Reverb: Density, Time, Colour and Size controls, early reflection absorption and a wet/dry blend.
- Gate: attack and release controls, trigger from the input, the reverb or an external sidechain, with trigger filtering and audition.
- Gate routing: apply the gate to the tail only, the feedback path or both, or disable it for automated build-ups.
- Tempo and ducking: pre-delay and decay can sync to DAW tempo, and ducking works from an internal or external sidechain.
- Retro and extras: bit-depth and sample-rate degradation for lo-fi character, Mix Lock, Freeze and Kill.
The current version is 1.1.2. A 14-day trial is available.

When to use it
Pick GateVerb when you want a dedicated gated reverb with detailed gate and trigger control at a low price, rather than UAD AMS RMX16 Expanded Digital Reverb and Lexicon 480L, which include classic non-linear programs, or Eventide SP2016, which covers vintage digital spaces more broadly.
- Best for: snare, toms and drum rooms that need a big, cut-off 1980s reverb, plus rhythmic effects on other sources.
- Genres: rock, pop, synth-pop, electronic and metal.
- Look elsewhere if: you need a general-purpose reverb; reviewers note this is a specialty effect.
- Standout: trigger and gate routing options, including gating the tail, the feedback path or both.
What producers say
Production Expert's three reviewers gave it a unanimous Gold Award for its authentic 1980s gated sound.
- Production Expert (2024) said to put it on a snare "and be ready for a huge dose of '80s nostalgia."
- Gate controls: the same review found "the gate parameters are perfectly tuned to work with the reverb."
- Gripe: the reviewers note it is a specialty effect with limited use as an all-round reverb.
