Digicrush

Not rated yet
A lo-fi digital distortion plugin that emulates early digital audio with bit depth and sample-rate reduction, jitter and overload.
Bit modes and anti-alias/anti-imaging filters let it recreate specific vintage sampler sounds or smooth the artifacts.
Best for: Drums, Vocals, Keys & Synths, Sound Design. Genres: Hip-Hop & Trap, Lo-Fi, Electronic & EDM.
Keywords: lo-fi, bitcrush, drums, digital classic, sample-rate reduction, heavy, oversampling, smooth, vocals, classic, gritty, simple, synths, vintage, destructive, hardware emulation, mixing, nostalgic, samples & loops, single-band, sound design, pads, visual feedback.
What it does
Digicrush is SSL's bitcrusher, which delivers "the gritty, lo-fi character of classic digital distortion," heavily influenced by classic digital samplers and effects.
- Overload: a "blown-out speaker" effect ranging from boom-bap drum grit to full destruction.
- Downsample and Jitter: sample-rate reduction with random rate variation for extra harmonic movement.
- Bit Mode and Bit Depth: different bit modes for distinct dynamic responses, from 12-bit sampler grit to 8-bit tracker sounds.
- Anti-Alias and Anti-Imaging: filters to smooth the result or remove downsampling artifacts.
- Output: mix and output controls plus a nostalgic FX visualizer.
The current version is 1.1.4, with a 14-day free trial.

When to use it
Digicrush focuses on vintage digital degradation. D16 Decimort 2 is a closely comparable sampler-style bitcrusher, and Kilohearts Bitcrush and TAL-Bitcrusher are simpler, cheaper options. Pick Digicrush for its overload stage, jitter and bit modes aimed at recreating 90s sampler and tracker sounds.
- Best for: drum loops and breaks, vocal crush effects, and lo-fi synths and pads.
- Genres: hip-hop, lo-fi, jungle/drum and bass, house and electronic.
- Look elsewhere if: you want analog-style saturation rather than digital artifacts.
- Standout: the Overload control combined with jitter and bit modes.
What producers say

- Production Expert (2024): another said the GUI is "super simple yet amazingly informative."
