What it does
TUBE Overdrive is Softube's take on the classic overdrive pedal sound, "the warm drive that shaped classic guitar tone." Softube does not name the pedal it is based on.
- Sound: a smooth, mid-focused overdrive that Softube says "cuts through any mix".
- Circuit: an emulation of what Softube calls a legendary analog drive circuit.
- Role: a pedal-style drive, meant to sit in front of an amp or to add drive to a guitar on its own.

When to use it
TUBE Overdrive is a simple, low-cost mid-focused drive pedal for Amp Room users. Compared with The Scream, a detailed Tube Screamer model where you can edit the circuit's components, it offers a fixed pedal with no circuit editing. It is far narrower than Saturn 2 or Devil-Loc Deluxe, which are mix distortion tools with many styles; TUBE Overdrive is aimed at guitar drive. Its main value is as a front-end for Softube's own amps, such as Top Boost or the Pacific Dual combos, inside one Amp Room chain.
- Best for: boosting amps and adding mid-focused drive that keeps guitars forward in a mix.
- Genres: rock, blues and metal.
- Look elsewhere if: you want to tweak the circuit (The Scream) or need multiband or broad mix distortion (Saturn 2).
- Tip: Softube's Amp Room manual suggests putting an overdrive in front of an amp like Top Boost and using the pedal's output level to set how hard the amp distorts.
