What it does
Pacific Dual Tremolo 100W Silver is Softube's model of a late-1960s American tube combo, the refined successor to the Black version. Softube describes "shimmering cleans with rich harmonic detail".
- Tone stack: the same Bass, Middle and Treble layout as the Black; pushed hard, it adds distortion of its own.
- Master volume: the key difference from the Black. It lets you push the power amp further into distortion separately from the preamp.
- Other controls: otherwise similar to the Black's layout.
- Sound: Softube calls it a versatile amp that can give "beautiful and chimey clean tones" as well as distortion.
- Matching cabinet: in the Amp Room Vintage Suite it is paired with the Pacific Dual Silver 2x12, loaded with a Celestion G12V-70 and taken from a 1968 combo.
- Where it runs: on its own as a plugin, or as a module inside Softube's Amp Room and the Flow Mixing Suite.
- Also in a bundle: it is one of four amps in the Amp Room Vintage Suite, next to the Black version, Custom 100W and 30W Top Boost.
The sources do not mention a trial.
When to use it
Pacific Dual Tremolo 100W Silver is the pick when you want one bright, chimey American clean amp that can also be driven harder at the power stage. Compared with the Black version, it adds a master volume, so you can set preamp and power amp drive separately, and Softube voices it for more sparkle. Against Paradise Guitar Studio or AmpliTube 5 MAX it covers only one amp, but it is far cheaper and slots into Amp Room next to Softube's cabinets and pedals. Unlike Guitar Rig 7 Pro, it has no effects rack of its own; you add those in Amp Room.
- Best for: bright, sparkling clean guitar, and cleans that crunch up when the master volume is pushed.
- Genres: pop, indie, country, soul and classic rock.
- Look elsewhere if: you want the simpler, rounder layout of the original (the Black version) or high gain (a British amp such as Softube's Custom 100W, or a Neural DSP Archetype).
- Tip: Softube suggests experimenting with both volume controls, since the master volume shifts the distortion from the preamp to the power amp.
