What it does
Lion Head Vibrato is a vintage-voiced vibrato effect that, in Softube's words, can "bring back old memories, and create new ones." It aims for the feel of classic analog vibrato circuits.
- Modulation: pitch-wobbling vibrato that ranges from subtle movement to deep, swirling modulation.
- Character: voiced after classic analog vibrato circuits rather than a clean digital pitch modulator.
- Pedal-style use: it is one of the pedals in Softube's Amp Room, so it can be part of a full guitar chain there.
- Where it runs: on its own as a plugin on any track, or inside Amp Room and the Flow Mixing Suite.
- Also in a bundle: it is included in the Amp Room Vintage Suite, alongside the Tinnerö tremolo, JJB chorus and other pedals.
Softube's pages do not list the individual controls. The sources do not mention a trial.
When to use it
Lion Head Vibrato is a low-cost, single-purpose vintage vibrato, most useful if you already build guitar chains in Amp Room. Compared with MicroShift it is a true pitch vibrato rather than a static detune widener, and compared with ShaperBox 3 or Movement it has none of their drawn LFO shapes, rhythmic modulation or multiple effect types. Unlike Soundtoys PhaseMistress or Eventide's Instant Flanger Mk II, it focuses on pitch wobble, not phasing or flanging. Its price is well below any of those.
- Best for: warbly vintage vibrato on guitars, electric piano and organ, and gentle movement on pads.
- Genres: indie, lo-fi, surf, psych and ambient.
- Look elsewhere if: you want many modulation types or tempo-synced motion in one plugin; ShaperBox 3 or Output Movement does more.
