A pair of plugins designed with engineer Paul Wolff: Fix Flanger, a tape-style flanger with hands-on VSO control, and Fix Doubler, a doubler and chorus for vocals and instruments.
The flanger covers classic flanging on drums, guitars and mixes; the doubler thickens and widens vocals and polyphonic parts.
Best for: Vocals, Guitars, Drums, Keys & Synths. Genres: Rock & Indie, Pop, Electronic & EDM.
Keywords: flanger, tape, vocals, chorus, drums, classic, wide, electric guitar, 70s, enhancement, hardware emulation, mixing, organic, thick.
What it does
Fix Flanger and Doubler is a bundle of two plugins based on Paul Wolff's Fix hardware concept from 1979, released as software in 2015.
- Fix Flanger: classic flanging with detailed control, hands-on VSO (tape-speed) flanging with servo-motor bounce emulation, and its own stereo widening methods.
- Fix Doubler: rich chorus and vocal textures; its Auto Double mode uses phase cancellation for a natural-sounding double.
When to use it
A strong choice for realistic tape-style flanging (the VSO mode is the standout) plus a doubler for vocals in the same purchase. Compared with the rated Instant Flanger Mk II it is more hands-on and fiddly, and neither plugin syncs its sweep to tempo; for rhythmic, tempo-locked movement look at ShaperBox 3 or LFO Tool.
What producers say
- MusicRadar (2016) called it a brilliant pairing of modulation effects, liking the flanger's envelope follower on drums, tap tempo and VSO mode and the doubler's rich chorusing, but noted the flanger is fiddly and neither has tempo sync.
