What it does
Bass Standard Line V8 is Softube's model of "a legendary all-tube bass amp", a 100-watt head with four 6L6 power tubes. Softube does not name the original, and pitches it for bass that has punch and grit, or clarity when the knobs are backed off.
- Sound: covers punchy clean tones through to rich, driven bass.
- Power section: a 100W all-tube design with four 6L6 power tubes, according to the Amp Room Bass Suite manual.
- Clean and dirty: pushed, it gives grit and punch; rolled back, it gives a cleaner, clearer tone.
- Beyond bass: Softube notes it also works well for clean guitar tones.
- Where it runs: on its own as a plugin, or as a module inside Softube's Amp Room and the Flow Mixing Suite.
- Also in a bundle: it is part of the Amp Room Bass Suite, alongside the Supernova Parallel Channel 300W, The Cardinal 100W and a Direct Input DI module.
Softube's pages do not list the individual controls. The sources do not mention a trial.
When to use it
Bass Standard Line V8 is a low-cost pick for one classic tube bass tone, punchy and gritty, without buying a whole bass suite. Compared with the Amp Room Bass Suite it is just one of that suite's amps, so you lose the Supernova's parallel channels, The Cardinal and the DI module. Unlike AmpliTube 5 MAX or Guitar Rig 7 Pro, it has no large set of bass rigs and effects, but it slots straight into Amp Room next to Softube's cabinets and pedals. Next to Neural Amp Modeler, it offers a single modelled amp rather than a library of captures you have to find and load.
- Best for: tube punch and drive on bass guitar and synth bass, and clean guitar parts.
- Genres: rock, metal, funk and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want several bass amps plus a DI to blend; the Amp Room Bass Suite bundles them.
