What it does

Virtual Tape Machines models two analog tape machines: a 2-inch 16-track multitrack deck and a half-inch stereo mastering deck.

Tape speed: 15 ips for a rounder, thicker sound or 30 ips for tighter bass and cleaner tone.
Controls: bias, bass alignment, wow and flutter, calibration and hiss options.

When to use it

A tape-saturation plugin for individual tracks (multitrack model) and the mix bus or master (stereo model). It sits between simple saturators and deep tape emulations like Waves Abbey Road J37 Tape and the rated Universal Audio Ampex ATR-102.
