Dipole is a through-zero flanger from Sinevibes built on two delay lines, where one can run earlier or later than the other.
Positive feedback gives the jet-plane swoosh, negative feedback warps and cancels, and it covers tape-style flanging and chorusing, for $29.
Best for: Guitars, Keys & Synths, Drums, Vocals. Genres: Rock & Indie, Electronic & EDM, Pop.
Keywords: flanger, tape, wide, chorus, swirling, drums, electric guitar, tempo-synced, mixing, parallel processing, spacious, subtle, thin, vocals.
What it does
Dipole is a through-zero flanger built on two delay lines. It recreates the flanging, chorusing and stereo widening once made with two tape machines in parallel, "with much higher fidelity and ease of use", as Sinevibes puts it.
- Zero: sets the time difference between the two delay lines, from -3 to +3 ms; sweeping through zero gives the tape-style cancel and flip.
- Feedback: -100 to +100%; the sign switches the internal routing, so there are two feedback modes.
- Stability: a low-cut filter and feedback self-leveling keep high feedback settings under control.
- Modulation: rate from 0.01 to 10 Hz, or 1/16 to 16/1 synced to the host tempo with phase locked to the transport; Depth (-100 to +100%) sets how far it moves Zero.
- Waveforms and stereo: sine, triangle, trapezoid and parabolic shapes, and a Stereo control (0 to 100%) that offsets the phase between left and right.
- Output and Mix: wet level and dry/wet balance, with lag filters on all continuous parameters for click-free moves.
Dipole v2 works mono, mono-to-stereo and stereo, with built-in presets, 200% window scaling and a PDF manual. Earlier owners upgrade free, and a demo version is available.

When to use it
Dipole is the pick when you want the through-zero tape flange itself, in a small, low-cost plugin. Compared with Eventide Instant Flanger Mk II, it doesn't model a particular vintage unit, but it focuses on the zero crossing and adds tempo-synced modulation with four waveforms. It is far narrower than Valhalla UberMod, which covers chorus, delay and many multi-tap modulation modes in one plugin. Unlike Soundtoys MicroShift, which widens with a fixed detune, Dipole's widening moves with its LFO and stereo phase offset. It costs less than any of them.
- Best for: jet-style sweeps on drums and guitars, psychedelic stereo widening, and subtle tape-style flanging on mixes.
- Genres: rock, psychedelic, pop and electronic.
- Look elsewhere if: you want the sound of a particular vintage unit (Instant Flanger Mk II) or several modulation effects in one plugin (UberMod).
- Tip: go beyond the classic jet sweep: the Sinesquares walkthrough suggests trying wide flanging, vibrato and chorus-style settings.
What producers say
Review coverage is thin, but the one walkthrough found it a flexible flanger that goes past the usual clichés.
- Sinesquares praised the four modulation waveforms and the stereo width control, and said it goes beyond "jet" sounds; it recommended it to adventurous users.
- Sinevibes in general: the same walkthrough praised the "carefully crafted effects", the clear interface and the reasonable prices across the range.
