Albedo

Not rated yet
Albedo is a granular reverb from Sinevibes that records incoming audio into a buffer and plays it back through up to 64 looping grains at random positions and sizes.
Grains can play forwards or in reverse with detune, and the buffer can be frozen to hold a cloud of sound indefinitely, for $39.
Best for: Keys & Synths, Guitars, Vocals, Sound Design. Genres: Ambient & Cinematic, Electronic & EDM.
Keywords: granular, reverse, freeze, vocals, ambience, electric guitar, smooth, sound design, synths, creative, chorus, cinematic, clean, gritty, live performance, mixing, pitch-shifting, resizable UI, pads, stereo-linked, tape, vinyl.
What it does
Albedo is a granular "cloud reverb": it keeps recording the input into a buffer and plays overlapping grains back from it, building a dense cloud of sound. Each grain has two envelopes, so playback can move smoothly between forward and reverse, a bit like a tape machine or turntable.
- Recording buffer: a real-time circular buffer with freeze and stereo link functions; freeze holds the current material so you can play over it.
- Input filter: an optional multi-mode state-variable filter before the buffer shapes what feeds the grains.
- Grains: up to 64 at once, with randomized position and size.
- Speed and pitch: bi-directional grain speed (forward or reverse) with variable detune, for pitch-shifted and chorus-like clouds.
- Interpolation: a choice of low-quality linear for a grittier sound or high-quality spline for cleaner playback.
- Modulation: a sine LFO moves grain speed and size together, and lag filters on every continuous control keep changes smooth and click-free.
- Interface: colour-coded graphics, built-in preset management and window scaling up to 200%.
Version 1.1.3 works mono to mono, mono to stereo and stereo to stereo. A demo version is available.

When to use it
Albedo is the pick for turning any input into a smeared, moving cloud rather than placing it in a space. Compared with Valhalla Supermassive or Eventide Blackhole it is less of a reverb and more of a live granular processor: grains, reverse playback and detune give pitch smears and chaotic reversed echoes those two don't. It is narrower than Output Portal, with no preset browser of effect chains, but cheaper and with a freeze function that suits live layering. Unlike Pro-R 2 or VintageVerb, it is not meant for realistic rooms or halls.
- Best for: pads, drones and ambient beds from guitar, synths or vocals; frozen textures under a live performance; reversed and pitch-smeared transitions.
- Genres: ambient, cinematic, experimental electronic and sound design.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a conventional mix reverb; VintageVerb or Pro-R 2 are more practical, and Supermassive is a free alternative for huge washes.
- Tip: AudioNewsRoom suggests automating the sliders heavily, so it plays more like an instrument than a static effect.
What producers say
The one full review found it an affordable, easy creative effect.
- AudioNewsRoom (2020) said it "already earned its place" among the reviewer's go-to creative effects, praising the resizable, colour-coded interface, the sound on varied sources and the freeze for layering.
- Criticisms: the same review wished for more built-in modulation, so movement didn't depend on DAW automation or MIDI.
