SRX PIANO II by Roland

SRX PIANO II brings the acoustic grand from Roland's second SRX piano board into a plugin, with 88-note multi-sampling and four velocity layers.

It runs on the 128-voice JV/XV engine with Roland's effects; it comes with Roland Cloud membership.

Best for: Keys & Synths, Acoustic Instruments. Genres: Pop, R&B & Soul, Jazz, Acoustic & Classical.

Keywords: grand piano, multisampled, polyphonic, sample-based, bright, 90s, classic, inspired by.

What it does

SRX PIANO II recreates Roland's Complete Piano SRX expansion board as a plugin, sold as "One Piano, No Compromise." It is a single 88-note acoustic grand, aimed at a clear tone, bright harmonics and a wide dynamic range that Roland says suits almost any style.

It supports sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz. Roland's page offers it through Roland Cloud membership.

When to use it

SRX PIANO II is a light, hardware-era grand: one bright, focused piano that sits well in a busy pop or R&B mix. Compared with Pianoteq 9 or Keyscape it has far less realism and only four velocity layers, but it costs less and loads instantly. Against the Abbey Road Studios CFX Concert Grand, which is built for detailed solo piano, it is better as a layering or arrangement piano than as a featured instrument. Its synth engine also lets you turn the piano into pads and hybrid keys, which most dedicated piano plugins can't.
