It has 100 patches, 1,344 waveforms and articulations such as falls; it comes with Roland Cloud membership.

Keywords: brass, 90s, classic, pads, polyphonic, hardware emulation, nostalgic, preset-driven.

What it does

SRX BRASS is a Roland Cloud instrument that brings back the brass waveforms of Roland's SRX and SR-JV80 expansion boards, the cards used in synths such as the JV-1080, XP-80 and XV-5080. Roland sells it as "Realistic Horn Sounds from Classic Roland Wave Expansion Boards."

It supports sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz. It is part of Roland Cloud membership; Roland's page does not show a separate price or a trial.

When to use it

SRX BRASS is the pick for classic 90s ROMpler brass: tight stabs, falls and section pads that sit easily in a pop or funk mix. Compared with Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition and BBC Symphony Orchestra Core, it is far less realistic and has fewer articulations and mic options, but it loads quickly and edits like a synth. Those libraries are built for orchestral scoring; SRX BRASS is closer to the brass patches of a JV or XV workstation. It is also a natural pick if you want that exact Roland sound from older records.
