What it does

EARTH Electric Piano gathers classic electric pianos into one plugin, from vintage tines to reed pianos, clavs and digital EPs. Roland builds it from detailed multi-sampling combined with its own modeling.

19 models: Silver Top, 74, 75, 76 and 79 Tine EPs, Dy-Mod EP, Reed EP, four clavinets (Clav.CA, CB, DA and DB), SA E.Piano 1 and 2, FM E.Piano, Bright FM EP, Woody FM EP, SA Piano, JD Piano and Electric Grand.
Preamp and tremolo: two preamp types (warm saturation or a grittier edge) and six kinds of tremolo.
Cabinets: 12 cabinet models plus a direct output.
Detail controls: levels for electronic hum, hiss, mechanical key noise and damper noise.
Effects: 37 multi-effect types drawing on over 90 effects (modulation, delays, lo-fi, loopers, bit-crushers and pitch shifters), a 3-band EQ, and a compressor with FET, optical and VCA modes.
Space: nine convolution venues with adjustable listening perspective, plus nine algorithmic reverbs.
Tones: 118 preset tones and up to 2,048 user tones.

KVR lists version 1.0.2. You can buy a Lifetime Key or use it with Roland Cloud Ultimate, which has a 30-day trial.

When to use it

EARTH Electric Piano is a pick for electric keys only, with a wide range of tine, reed, clav and Roland digital EP models and a full amp, cabinet and effects chain built in. Compared with Keyscape, it skips acoustic pianos and other keyboards but adds more clav variants and Roland's own SA, FM and JD digital pianos. Against Electric 88 Piano, it covers far more instrument types, where Electric 88 Piano focuses on one tine piano. Addictive Keys has fewer EP flavours but a simpler, mic-based approach and also covers acoustic grands.

Best for: tine, reed, clav and 80s/90s digital EP sounds in one place, with amp and tremolo shaping.
Genres: R&B, soul, pop, jazz, funk, hip-hop and lo-fi.
Look elsewhere if: you also need acoustic pianos and other keyboards (Keyscape) or a modeled piano with very small disk use (Pianoteq 9).
