Flare by Puremagnetik

Flare is a spectral ensemble effect built around a bucket-brigade delay line, with a Chebyshev waveshaper and a Sweep filter modeled on a Moog diode low-pass.

Spectral Blur, Revolve panning, a multi-tap Delay and Shake tremolo round it out, for $20.

Best for: Keys & Synths, Guitars, Sound Design. Genres: Ambient & Cinematic, Electronic & EDM, Lo-Fi.

Keywords: spectral, BBD, hardware emulation, tremolo, chorus, classic, electric guitar, keys, synths, 70s, dreamy, enhancement, lo-fi, mixing, sound design, spacious, pads, vintage, wide.

What it does

Flare is "a spectral ensemble effect based on the bucket-brigade delay line". It aims for the dreamy chorus of classic string machines, then adds waveshaping, filtering, spectral blur and movement in one short chain.

When to use it

Flare is the better pick when you want a chorus that changes the sound, not just widens it. Compared with Eventide TriceraChorus or Arturia Chorus JUN-6, it is less of a clean mix tool: it adds drive, a filter, spectral blur, auto-panning and tremolo around the ensemble. TAL-Chorus-LX is free and closer to a straight Juno chorus, and D16 Syntorus 2 offers far more detailed voice and modulation control. Flare has only a handful of knobs, so it is quick to dial in but gives less precise control than any of those.
