Cloudmaster is a space processor that combines a two-window segment looper, spectral blur, algorithmic reverb, a Chebyshev waveshaper and a pitch shifter.

It covers everything from plain reverb to slow, smeared ambient washes, for $20.

Best for: Sound Design, Keys & Synths, Guitars. Genres: Ambient & Cinematic, Electronic & EDM.

Keywords: ambience, spectral, algorithmic, pitch-shifting, synths, experimental, electric guitar, fuzz, samples & loops, simple, subscription, wet, cinematic, creative, evolving, mixing, multi-band, room, sound design, spacious, pads.

What it does

Cloudmaster is a single-screen effect that Puremagnetik calls "a multifunction space processor". It loops short segments of the incoming audio, then pitches, blurs, distorts and diffuses them, so it can work as a plain algorithmic reverb or turn a phrase into a long ambient wash.

two segment loopers with fixed start points and variable endpoints, so the looped phrases overlap. Synth Anatomy notes they work from a 3-second buffer.
Range: pitch scaling of the loops, where 1.0 is no change and 2.0 is one octave up.
Blur: a spectral blur that smears the amplitudes and frequencies of the sound.
Space, Size and Damp: Space sets the send into the algorithmic reverb, Size sets its room size and depth, and Damp rolls off its high frequencies.
Fuzz and Xover: Fuzz is a Chebyshev waveshaper placed after the reverb; Xover sets its crossover frequency, working as a low-pass on the shaped signal.
Boost: output gain after the reverb and waveshaper.

Puremagnetik aims it at "sound designers, ambient producers and experimental sonic artists". It first came out in 2020 through the developer's monthly subscription and is now sold on its own. KVR says a demo is available from Puremagnetik.

When to use it

Cloudmaster is the cheap, quick pick for turning a part into a blurred, pitch-shifted cloud from one screen of nine knobs. Compared with Valhalla Supermassive or Eventide Blackhole it is a far simpler reverb, with no mode list or detailed modulation, but its loopers and spectral blur do things those reverbs don't. Graindad from Sugar Bytes goes much deeper into granular stutter and rhythm, and Output Portal has far more presets and movement, at several times the price. Unlike most multi-effects here, Cloudmaster has no tempo-synced sequencing; it is built for washes rather than rhythmic glitches.

Best for: ambient pads, guitar swells, and stretching short phrases into evolving beds under a track.
Genres: ambient, drone, cinematic and experimental electronic music.
Look elsewhere if: you need a clean, realistic room or hall reverb for mixing (Valhalla VintageVerb or FabFilter Pro-R 2), or rhythmic, synced effects (Effectrix2 or Graindad).

What producers say

Coverage is mostly launch news; Synth Anatomy liked it, and KVR has no user reviews yet.

Synth Anatomy (2020) called it "a very nice experimental plugin", especially for ambient musicians, and praised the simple, good-looking interface.
On value: the same article praised Puremagnetik for offering interesting plugins at bargain prices.
