The p821 MDN Tape models a Stephens 821 2-inch transformerless multitrack machine, based on Marc Daniel Nelson's personal unit.
- Tape: two formulas (456 and 900) and two speeds (15 and 30 ips).
- Tone: bias and shelving controls, and a hiss generator with a stable floor.
- Movement: wow and flutter, plus a tape delay (62.5-350 ms) with feedback and a lo-fi mode with flange.
- Stereo: Stage Focus imaging and a centre anchor to keep lows mono-compatible.
- Version: v1.5.0 (July 2026) has an optimised engine; it has analog VU metering and a 15-day trial.

When to use it
This is a tape-machine plugin for adding tape tone and glue across tracks or the mix. Compared with Universal Audio's Ampex ATR-102 and Waves' Abbey Road J37 Tape, it has a multitrack-machine flavour and extras like delay and stage focus.
- Best for: drums, mix bus and full mixes wanting tape saturation and gentle movement.
