P22 Rail is a time-domain clipper with three converter-inspired flavours and the stabilizing engine from P21 Atlas riding the peaks before the clip stage.
It aims for commercial loudness that keeps transient impact, with loudness metering and immersive support, for $179 (Stereo) or $225 (Immersive).
Best for: Mastering, Mix Bus, Drum Bus, Drums. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Hip-Hop & Trap, Pop, Rock & Indie, Metal.
Keywords: mastering, metering, bus processing, full mix, drums, true-peak, vintage, A/B compare, auto-gain, drum bus, low latency, mix bus, mixing, modern, single-band, spacious, thick, transparent, warm.
What it does
P22 Rail is a stabilizing A/D-style clipper: it models how a converter distorts when driven past full scale, so there are no attack, release or knee settings, just a character you drive into. Before the clipper, a stabilizing stage taken from P21 Atlas rides peaks just below the rail, so the clipper only shapes what that stage can't catch.
- Three flavours: MODERN is transparent and clips soonest, SHARP bends into the clip with a defined edge, and VINTAGE adds asymmetric warmth and harmonics over a wider zone and takes the most drive.
- Drive and output: DRIVE pushes 0 to 18 dB into the rail, and TRIM sets the output from unity down to −30 dB.
- Comparison tools: MATCH gives a level-matched A/B against bypass, and A and B slots store two settings side by side.
- Metering: input peak, clip depth, clip percentage, true peak and true peak max, integrated LUFS and LRA.
- Low latency: 3 samples, which the developer says makes it usable for live front-of-house work.
- Immersive edition: handles mono and stereo up to 9.1.6 as one program; the LFE is metered but never clipped, with extra LFE peak and clip balance readouts. The Stereo edition handles mono and stereo and passes multichannel audio through unchanged.
Version 1.0.0 was released on 3 July 2026. It comes in Rail Stereo and Rail Immersive editions. A fully working 30-day trial of the Immersive edition is available.

When to use it
P22 Rail is the better pick when you want converter-style clipping with a fixed character and full loudness metering in one plugin. It is closest to Gold Clip in idea, but adds the peak-stabilizing stage before the clipper, true peak and LUFS readouts, and an immersive edition up to 9.1.6. Compared with StandardCLIP and KClip 3 it has far fewer shaping controls, since it offers three flavours instead of adjustable curves and knees. It is also much more expensive than Free Clip 2, so it suits engineers who want a fast, character-led mastering clipper rather than a tweakable one.
- Best for: loud mastering and bus clipping, immersive masters, and adding converter-style edge to dense drums and full mixes.
- Genres: electronic, hip-hop, pop, rock and metal, where loudness matters.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a soft clipper for sparse material or many curve shapes (StandardCLIP, KClip 3), or a free option (Free Clip 2).
- Tip: Gearspace users found it works best on dense, percussive material fed in uncompressed, so the stabilizing stage has peaks to work on.
What producers say
Early users on Gearspace were split: some made it their main clipper, others heard distortion sooner than expected.
- Gearspace thread users praised the VINTAGE flavour and a "thickness" next to Acustica's Ash, and one called it "easily my go to for any clipping application".
- Criticisms: one user heard unpleasant distortion once clip depth passed about 0.5 dB on a ballad, another heard an upper-mid change on insert, and some preferred other clippers or loudness tools.
- Developer reply: the developer said Rail is meant to distort like a real converter and is not the same tool as a soft clipper.
