Nexcellence

Not rated yet
A spring reverb modeled on classic "necklace-type" spring units, with two different spring set processors.
The two engines can run alone or together, and it adds stereo imaging controls that hardware springs never had.
Best for: Guitars, Vocals, Keys & Synths, Drums. Genres: Rock & Indie, Lo-Fi, R&B & Soul, Ambient & Cinematic.
Keywords: spring, hardware emulation, vintage, wide, bright, drums, vocals, electric guitar, inspired by, keys, cinematic, classic, CPU-light, dark, lo-fi, mid/side, mixing, modern.
What it does
Nexcellence is PSP's "Rich Reverb": a spring emulation inspired by and modeled after "necklace-type" reverb units, aimed at saturated, vintage spring sounds with modern control.
- Two spring sets: spring set processors I and II can be used individually or together.
- Decay and color: decay time from 0.8 to 7.2 seconds and a Color control for brightness, according to Music Connection's review.
- Input limiter: a built-in opto-style limiter on the input that can be driven for a darker, compressed spring.
- Stereo imaging: M/S-based width control for the reverb.
- Efficiency: low CPU use.

When to use it
Nexcellence is the pick for its necklace-type spring character, its two combinable spring engines and stereo width control, rather than the close tank modeling of Softube Spring Reverb and AudioThing Springs or the vintage unit with extras in Arturia Rev SPRING-636.
- Best for: surf and vintage guitar tones, vibey vocal reverb and adding saturated spring character to keys and drums.
- Genres: rock, indie, surf, soul, lo-fi and cinematic textures.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a general-purpose hall or plate; a spring is a specific color.
- Standout: two different spring engines that can be layered, plus stereo width control.
What producers say
Press reviews in 2017 praised its rich, realistic sound; the price was the main complaint.
- Computer Music (2017): said it is "quite unlike any reverb" with "a unique richness and energy" and sounds fabulous on any source.
- Music Connection (2017): Barry Rudolph liked its "'bubbly' twang" with more control over brightness, and its stereo width control.
- Gripe: Computer Music found it quite expensive and missed a bypass switch for the Feed control.
