What it does
DriveMod is "Distortion Meets Modulation": a drive plugin that adds LFO movement to its controls. It came from Soundspot's range and was relaunched in Plugin Boutique's Core Collection.
- Six algorithms: Digital (bitcrusher), Tube (guitar preamp style), Diode (clipper from bright to fuzz), Lin Fold (FM-like folding), Zero Sq (random square waves) and Rectify (adds an octave up).
- Core controls: Drive, Destroy to smash audio further, Tone, auto-gain and automatic oversampling.
- Wet signal shaping: a filter to focus the distortion on one band and a stereo panner to place it.
- Movement panel: draw your own LFO shapes or use sine, square, saw and triangle, at rates from 1/64 note to 32 bars, with playhead reversal, smoothing and pulse width modulation; 75 presets.

When to use it
DriveMod is simpler and cheaper than FabFilter Saturn 2, the deeper multiband distortion with its own modulation, and than other creative options such as iZotope Trash and Soundtoys Devil-Loc Deluxe. Its drawable LFOs make it quick to add rhythmic movement to distortion. Pick it when you want pulsing or evolving drive on synths, drums and loops without a modular setup.
- Best for: adding movement to static loops, gritty drums, 808 and bass edge, and experimental folding effects.
- Genres: electronic, EDM, hip-hop, trap and rock.
- Look elsewhere if: you need multiband processing or amp-style tone; Saturn 2 or an amp sim does more.
- Standout: the Movement panel with custom-drawn LFO shapes on any distortion parameter.
