Bidule by Plogue

Bidule is Plogue's modular audio and MIDI environment, which hosts VST and AU plugins and also runs as a plugin inside a DAW.

It adds spectral processing, multichannel routing and reusable modular groups, for $95.

Best for: Sound Design, Keys & Synths. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Ambient & Cinematic.

Keywords: spectral, modular, live performance, FFT-based, MIDI-controllable, utility, CLAP, keys, legacy/32-bit, low latency, rhythmic, samples & loops, sound design.

What it does

Bidule is a modular patching environment for audio and MIDI, which Plogue describes as a "Realtime VST2/VST3/AU host with Audio/MIDI/Spectral processing". You wire small modules ("bidules") and plugins together into your own effects, instruments and MIDI tools, and can repatch while audio is playing.

The current version on KVR is 0.9792. A trial is available.

When to use it

Bidule is the pick when you need custom routing, MIDI processing or plugin chains that no normal effect or host offers, especially in a live rig. Compared with Reaktor 6 or Max it is lighter and more focused on wiring plugins and MIDI together, though it has fewer ready-made instruments and less of a sound-design ecosystem. Compared with a plain plugin chainer such as BlueCat's PatchWork, it adds its own DSP, MIDI and spectral modules, at the cost of a steeper learning curve. It has nothing in common with the rated metering utilities such as Insight 2 or SPAN; it is a building kit, not an analysis tool.
