Free dynamics processor from Playfair Audio for shaping the body and sustain of sounds. Released in 2025.

Best for: Drums, Bass. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: bass, drums, minimal controls, free, downward expansion, mixing, single-band, vocals.

What it does

Body is a free dynamics processor from Playfair Audio that uses two thresholds to define a 'body range' for compression and expansion.

Two controls: Body sets the ratio within the range, and Gain sets the level.
Source Learn: analyses the audio to set the thresholds automatically.
Display: histograms of the input and target output levels.
Engine: the same DSP as Playfair's paid Dynamic Grading plugin, which has extra controls such as Spectrum, Response and Release.

When to use it

Body works only on material between its two thresholds, leaving peaks and quiet parts alone. That makes it a different tool from the transient shapers in the rated list, and closer to a simple leveller for evening out a sound's mid-level dynamics.

Best for: evening out vocals, bass and drums with very few controls.
