REmatrix is a convolution reverb that blends up to five impulse responses in parallel, with a large factory library by MoReVoX.
It adds an effects chain and master section. It costs about $135.12 (€119, regular €239).
Best for: Vocals, Mix Bus, Acoustic Instruments. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: impulse-response based, convolution, warm, hardware emulation, mixing, parallel processing, room, vocals, plate, post-production, preset-driven, bus processing, CPU-light, creative, downward expansion, drums, electric guitar, enhancement, full mix, hall, mix bus, thick, visual feedback, wide.
What it does
REmatrix is Overloud's multi-layer convolution reverb, developed with sound designer MoReVoX. It runs five convolvers in parallel, so several impulse responses can be blended into one reverb without the phase problems of stacking separate reverb plugins.
- Five convolvers: load up to five IRs at once and blend them into one composite reverb, shown together in a single waveform display.
- Per-layer controls: each layer has its own EQ, pan, delay, stereo width and IR length, plus filters for shaping its tone.
- IR categories: impulses are sorted into Hall, Room, Plate, Early and Special, which makes it quick to build a space from early reflections and a tail.
- Master effects: a global chain of six effects, including delay, saturation, modulation and compression, for adding warmth, movement and top-end shaping to the whole reverb.
- Factory library: 330 IRs and 670 presets made by MoReVoX during real mixing sessions, with creative categories such as "Smash Rooms"; the PostPro Gold post-production expansion is included.
- Expansions: more libraries load into it, such as Dusty Racks Vol. 1 (330 IRs of hardware units), Rafa Sardina Spaces, Imagined Spaces (synthesized IRs), Studio Sessions and JPVerbs.
KVR lists version 1.2.12. Overloud sells REmatrix with the Factory Library, with other options and expansion libraries also available. A trial is available.
When to use it
REmatrix is the pick when a single impulse response isn't enough: it layers up to five sampled rooms, plates and hardware units into one reverb, with saturation and compression on top. Compared with VintageVerb or Pro-R 2, it takes longer to dial in and relies on sampled sources rather than an algorithm, but it gives a denser and more coloured sound. Unlike Seventh Heaven Professional, which reproduces one classic hardware unit closely, REmatrix is built for blending and for bold, characterful reverbs. Sound On Sound found it less suited to subtle ambience, and it has no global pre-delay; each layer's delay is set separately.
- Best for: thick, characterful reverbs on drums, vocals and guitars, and custom spaces built from several IRs.
- Genres: pop and rock in particular, plus post-production with the PostPro Gold library.
- Look elsewhere if: you want subtle, transparent ambience or a quick setup; Pro-R 2 or VintageVerb are faster.
- Tip: start from a preset, then solo or rebalance the individual layers to adapt it to the track.
What producers say
Reviewers like its bold, warm character and easy interface, but see it as a specialist reverb rather than an all-rounder.
- Sound On Sound praised its "distinctive, powerful sound with plenty of warmth and personality" and the large preset library, but noted the lack of a global pre-delay and that it is less suited to subtle reverbs.
- KVR users rate it 5 out of 5 from one review, praising the uncluttered interface, low CPU use, lack of latency and the warm, natural factory presets.
