SINE Player is Orchestral Tools' free player and plugin host for its sample libraries, including the free SINEfactory and Berlin Free Orchestra instruments.
It lets you buy and download single instruments and mic positions, merge mics and remap articulations; it is free.
Best for: Keys & Synths, Acoustic Instruments, Sound Design. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: free, sample-based, monophonic, musical, round-robin, smooth, sound design.
What it does
SINE Player is Orchestral Tools' free player that runs every current Orchestral Tools collection. It combines the sample player, the downloader and the store in one window, with the aim of making libraries "easier, more flexible, and more musical."
- download only the instruments and microphone positions you need, and buy single instruments instead of whole collections.
- Mic merging: combine several microphone positions into one mixed signal, which saves CPU and RAM compared with streaming each mic separately.
- Articulation list: keyswitches are created automatically, and articulations can be remapped in batches across instruments and MIDI channels.
- Round robins: manage how the alternate sample takes cycle.
- Dynamics: adjust, mute or solo individual dynamic layers, with auto volume scaling so levels stay smooth across legato transitions.
- Envelope shaping: "intelligent" envelope shaping for the attack and release of each articulation.
The current version is 1.4.3 (as listed on KVR). It is free.

When to use it
SINE Player is the right tool only if you use Orchestral Tools libraries, but for those it is free and well suited to large orchestral sets. Compared with Kontakt 8 and HALion 7, it cannot load other developers' libraries or build your own instruments, yet its per-instrument and per-mic downloads keep RAM lighter. Unlike SampleTank 4, it is not a general sound library either; it is a player and store for one developer's catalogue. Its mic merging and batch keyswitch remapping are aimed at template builders rather than sound designers.
- Best for: running Orchestral Tools libraries, including the free SINEfactory instruments and Berlin Free Orchestra, and building large orchestral templates.
- Genres: any; mostly cinematic, orchestral, game and media music.
- Look elsewhere if: you want to build your own sampled instruments or load third-party libraries; Kontakt 8 or HALion 7 do that.
- Tip: merge the mic positions you like into one signal before loading a big template, to cut the RAM and CPU load.
What producers say
Reviewers treat SINE as a real step up for Orchestral Tools libraries, with RAM use the main concern.
- Sample Library Review praised mic merging, per-layer dynamics control and the Polymap tool for stacking and crossfading patches.
- Criticisms: the same review found large libraries "quite taxing on your RAM", wanted a purge function for unused samples, and noted a few minor playback glitches.
- MusicRadar is quoted on KVR calling it "a player that gives Kontakt a run for its money."
