soothe3
by oeksound · Resonance Suppressor · Dynamic resonance suppressor
vst3s Score 9.0/10 · rated #1 of 4 resonance suppressors
soothe finds problem resonances as they happen and applies matching reduction only when and where it is needed, so harshness, sibilance and mud come down without dulling the rest of the sound.
It saves the hand-work of sweeping and notching frequencies one at a time. Version 3 is the current release.
Best for: Vocals, Guitars, Mix Bus, Mastering. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: dynamic, corrective, low latency, bus processing, mix bus, vocals, zero-latency, tracking, electric guitar, full mix, transparent, gentle, linear-phase, live performance, mastering, mixing, smooth, surgical, swirling, synths.
What it does
soothe3 is oeksound's dynamic resonance suppressor. It finds problem resonances as the audio plays and applies matching cuts automatically, so you don't have to notch frequencies by hand. Version 3, released in May 2026, replaces soothe2.
- Uses: harshness, sibilance, muddiness, boominess and proximity effect on any source.
- Detail: a new control that replaces soothe2's Sharpness and Selectivity; oeksound calls it the biggest upgrade from soothe2.
- Modes: Soft, with an adaptive threshold, and Hard, which is more compressor-like and closer to soothe2.
- Shaping: eight node shapes, Tilt controls that scale Detail, attack and release across the frequency range, and Max Cut to limit how deep the reductions go.
- Also: a zero-latency mode for tracking and live use, a linear-phase option, and multichannel support up to 9.1.6.
There's a 20-day trial.
When to use it
soothe3 isn't an EQ you set by hand: it's a cut-only processor that reacts to the material. Pro-Q 4's Spectral Dynamics and dynamic EQs like TDR Nova and F6 can tame resonances too, but you have to find and set each band; soothe3 handles many moving resonances at once.
- Best for: harsh vocals, guitars and synths, sibilance, boxy low mids, and gentle control on the mix bus or master.
- Live and tracking: the zero-latency mode makes it usable while recording and at front of house.
- Look elsewhere if: you need to boost, or want to shape tone rather than remove problems.
- Genres: all of them.
What producers say
The new version has been well received, above all for staying transparent when pushed.
- MusicTech (9/10) praised smoother, more transparent processing and a simpler interface; the gripes are the premium price and Detail being global rather than per band.
- Production Expert's Luke Goddard called it the most useful version yet, welcomed the single Detail control and recommended upgrading.
- WaveInformer found the improved sound the most meaningful upgrade, with more clarity than soothe2 at higher settings.
- Live engineers were quick to pick up on the zero-latency mode.
