What it does
Tjock (Swedish for "thick") is a low-end enhancer that adds weight, depth and character to bass-heavy material. It shapes the bass by blending a filtered signal in parallel with the dry one, aiming for warmth and thickness without a big loudness cost.
- Linear Phase mode: a relatively transparent setting for subtle work.
- Minimum Phase mode: a colored, analog-like setting with more character.
- Dynamic Bypass: an adjustable threshold that sets when the processing engages.
- Below: a volume control for the dry signal below the threshold.
- Polarity switch: in Minimum Phase it adds a phase shift that can change the whole low end; in Linear Phase it causes cancellation.
- Wide range of sources: kick, bass, synths, drum buses, mix buses and full masters, from subtle enhancement to obvious tone shaping.
Version 1.22 on the developer's Patreon page (KVR lists 1.20). It is a one-time purchase with minor updates included, or it is part of Noisebud's Patreon membership. A demo is available.
When to use it
Tjock is the better pick when the low end is there but feels thin or flat. Compared with Decapitator, SDRR or Saturation Knob, it works only on the bass and adds weight without putting grit on the top. Unlike Noisebud's Solid, it does not generate a new sub-octave; it thickens what is already in the recording. Its two phase modes and polarity switch give more tonal options than a single-knob saturator, at a much lower price than most rated saturators.
- Best for: thickening kick, bass and the low end of buses and masters.
- Genres: electronic, hip-hop, rock and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want full-range saturation (Decapitator or SDRR), or the mix is missing a bottom octave entirely (Solid).
- Tip: in Minimum Phase mode, flip the polarity switch to try a different low-end character.
