What it does
SPLITT is a free linear-phase band splitter from Noisebud, originally built for the developer's own mastering work. It divides audio into a low and a high band and routes each to its own outputs, so you can process them separately or in unusual ways.
- Linear-phase split: the crossover filters add no phase shift between the bands.
- Crossover: an adjustable crossover frequency, with direct value entry.
- Filter taps: adjustable from 200 to over 900, trading split precision against CPU use.
- Matrix routing: sends the low and high bands to stereo or sidechain inputs and outputs, so bands from different sources can be combined.
- Band gain and bypass: added in version 2.0, each band has its own gain knob and bypass button.
- Interface: a minimal one-screen design for mixing and mastering.
Version 2.0 (April 2025) is built with SynthEdit and is free from Noisebud's Patreon.
When to use it
SPLITT is the pick when you want a clean, phase-coherent two-band split to build your own processing in the DAW. Unlike SPAN and Insight 2, which only analyse audio, it is a routing processor and shows no spectrum. Compared with a multiband tool such as Ozone or a multiband compressor, it does no processing itself: you supply the plugins for each band, which gives more freedom but takes more setup. Because it only makes two bands, it suits jobs like treating bass and treble separately rather than full multiband work.
- Best for: independent processing of bass and treble, custom two-band mastering chains and band-split sound design experiments.
- Genres: any.
- Look elsewhere if: you need more than two bands or your DAW already has a linear-phase band-split container; a dedicated multiband processor is quicker for standard jobs.
