PHIFT
by Noisebud · Modulation · Low-end phase and pitch enhancer

PHIFT is a Noisebud low-end enhancer that makes electronic bass sound more lively through phase and pitch manipulation, without changing the fundamental.
It creates a chorus-like effect from the harmonics already in the signal, and is available through Patreon from $5.
Best for: Bass, Mix Bus, Mastering. Genres: Electronic & EDM.
Keywords: bass, chorus, enhancement, synths, experimental, full mix, beta, bus processing, creative, kick, mastering, mix bus, mixing, pitch-shifting.
What it does
PHIFT is an experimental low-end effect meant to "bring life into stiff low-end" in music with electronically created bass. It uses psychoacoustic phase and pitch shifting to move the low end around, and the developer warns that acoustic kicks will sound a bit odd through it.
- Phase and pitch: shifts the low end in phase and slightly pitches the existing fundamental to create movement.
- Harmonics kept: the harmonics already in the sound are preserved, so the perceived bass note stays in place.
- Chorus-like effect: the result is a chorus-style liveliness in the low end, built from the sound's own content.
- Electronic focus: tuned mainly for synth bass and electronic low end rather than recorded instruments.
- Two builds: the download includes a stable OLD and a beta NEW framework version with no difference in sound; you pick whichever works on your system.
The developer's pages do not list individual controls or ranges. Version 1.0, made with SynthEdit. It comes with Noisebud's Patreon membership, or for a one-time donation. A demo is available that adds occasional low-level noise bursts.
When to use it
PHIFT is the narrow pick for adding motion to a static synth bass without putting a chorus on it. Compared with MicroShift and UberMod, which widen and modulate the whole signal, PHIFT works only on the low end and keeps the existing harmonics, so it avoids the smeared bass a normal chorus can cause. Unlike LFO Tool or ShaperBox 3, it does not do rhythmic volume or filter movement; the change is in phase and pitch. Its controls are barely documented, so it is best treated as an experiment.
- Best for: bringing life to stiff synth bass and electronic low end.
- Genres: electronic music.
- Look elsewhere if: you are working on acoustic recordings or want a general chorus or width tool; MicroShift is more versatile.
