Aboh!
by Noisebud · Compressor · Dynamics restorer for over-compressed audio
Not rated yet
Aboh! is a Noisebud dynamics tool for fixing problems caused by heavy compression and limiting, such as level jumps in quiet sections.
It has separate gain above and below the threshold, a sidechain input and delta monitoring, for $30 or with a $6 Patreon membership.
Best for: Mastering, Mix Bus, Drum Bus. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Pop, Hip-Hop & Trap.
Keywords: sidechain input, heavy, bus processing, corrective, full mix, pumping, glue, creative, drum bus, mastering, mix bus, mixing, perpetual licence, single-band.
What it does
Aboh! is a de-compression tool from Noisebud for material that has been squeezed too hard by compression and limiting. Instead of a ratio, it gives separate gain for the audio above and below a threshold, so quiet passages that jump up in level can be pulled back while dense, loud parts stay as they are.
- Threshold and two gains: set a threshold, then choose how much gain the signal gets above it and below it.
- Reverse pumping fix: aimed at the level rise in breakdowns and quiet sections of heavily limited masters.
- Curve: shapes the transition around the threshold; it became a round knob in v1.10.
- Sidechain input: key the processing from another source, for example a kick in EDM, for creative ducking-style moves.
- Sidechain display: spectrum markers show the sidechain filter settings.
- Auto-adjust: normalises the input level so the threshold is quicker to set.
- Delta: listen to only what Aboh! is changing.
Version 1.10 (released September 2025) is a one-time purchase, which covers minor updates up to the next major version, or comes with Noisebud's Patreon membership. It is built with SynthEdit.
When to use it
Aboh! is a repair tool for already-compressed audio, not a compressor. Compared with Pro-C 3, The Glue or TDR Kotelnikov, which reduce dynamic range, Aboh! works the other way: it sets gain separately below and above a threshold to undo the level jumps and pumping that heavy limiting leaves behind. It has far fewer controls than Pro-C 3 and no character modes, but its delta listening and auto-adjust keep the job focused. Its sidechain input also lets it do ducking moves that a standard bus compressor like The Glue would handle with a ratio instead.
- Best for: taming level jumps in over-compressed mixes, stems and masters.
- Genres: electronic, pop and hip-hop, where heavy limiting is common.
- Look elsewhere if: you need a general compressor for tracking or mixing; Pro-C 3 or The Glue are the more flexible choice.
