What it does
Action Phaser is NoiseAsh's stereo phaser, designed to be easy to use while holding "the power of both vintage analog and modern digital features". The developer based it on research into hardware phaser circuits.
- Phase engine: a double analog-frequency phase system with analog modeling and adjustable frequency settings.
- LFO shapes: sine, square, triangle and sawtooth waves, plus a randomizer.
- Envelope: a custom envelope follower with adjustable shapes, so the sweep can react to the input.
- 32-step sequencer: programs rhythmic, stepped sweep patterns.
- Sync or free: every modulation source can lock to the host tempo or run freely.
- Pan modulation: moves the signal across the stereo field, also in sync or free mode.
- Colour and tone: an analog tape saturation unit, low-pass and high-pass filters, and low and high shelf EQ.
- Interface: a resizable GUI with simplified controls.
The demo is fully functional with no time limit but mutes briefly every 30 seconds.
When to use it
Action Phaser is the better pick when you want a phaser that moves in rhythm: its 32-step sequencer and envelope follower give patterned or input-driven sweeps that go beyond a plain LFO. Compared with Soundtoys PhaseMistress, it puts less weight on classic phaser character but adds the step sequencer, pan modulation and a tape saturation stage in the same window. Against Cableguys ShaperBox 3 it is much narrower, a phaser with pan movement rather than a full rhythmic multi-effect, but it is also more direct to set up. Its tape saturation and shelf EQ let it colour a part as well as sweep it.
- Best for: rhythmic phaser sweeps on synths, guitars and drums, and moving stereo pads.
- Genres: electronic, rock and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you only want subtle, classic phasing (PhaseMistress has more vintage character) or rhythmic modulation beyond phasing (ShaperBox 3).
What producers say
Coverage is thin: KVR has no user reviews yet, and the main write-up found is a phaser roundup.
- Pluginerds named it "Best for Beginners" in a phaser roundup, praising the 32-step sequencer, the tape-style saturation, low CPU use and the resizable interface.
- Criticisms: Pluginerds felt it may be more complex than needed if you only want subtle phasing.
