What it does
Skanner XT is a wave-scanning synth from Reaktor creator Stephan Schmitt, halfway between a sampler and a synth.
- Engine: two oscillators scan through a sample. At low frequencies this gives scratching sounds; at higher pitches the sample shapes the oscillator tone.
- Controls: two interface views, a morph control with eight snapshots, four macros and a global LFO.
- Sounds: 296 presets across pads, bass, leads, soundscapes and effects; you can load your own samples in Reaktor 5.6 or later.
- Runs in: the free Reaktor Player or Reaktor.

When to use it
Skanner XT suits rhythmic, textured and unusual sounds, especially if you want to scan through your own recordings. For conventional wavetable work, Vital or Serum 2 are simpler and more polished.
