Reaktor-based drum sampler that builds and randomizes eight-slot kits from a sample library.
Best for: Drums. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Hip-Hop & Trap.
Keywords: sample-based, randomize, experimental.
What it does
Polyplex is an eight-part drum sampler for building and randomising kits, by Twisted Tools (Josh Hinden and Igor Shilov).
- Kits: eight sound slots, each layering four samples, with randomisation at global, sound or sample level.
- Effects: 18 effects, up to four at a time, including dynamics, reverb and glitch.
- Modulation: an envelope follower for rhythmic parameter movement.
- Content and loading: 142 preset sounds, and you can load your own samples into custom sample maps.
It runs in Reaktor 5.9.1 or later, or the free Reaktor Player, and has Maschine units for kick, snare, percussion and one-shots.

When to use it
Polyplex is a kit generator: hit randomise and get a new kit. That makes it a good idea machine, and a contrast to Battery 4's hand-built cell workflow.
- Best for: quickly finding unusual drum sounds and layering samples.
- Genres: electronic, hip-hop and experimental beats.
Where to buy
- Native Instruments: $69
