What it does
Pendulate is a free monophonic synthesizer from Newfangled Audio (sold through Eventide), built around a double-pendulum chaotic oscillator that moves from sine waves to chaotic tones.
- Sound path: a Buchla 259-inspired wavefolder and a Buchla 292-inspired low pass gate.
- Modulation: envelope generator and LFO, with up to 169 simultaneous routings.
- Extras: MPE support, 136 presets, A/B comparison and undo/redo.

When to use it
Pendulate is a free, cut-down taste of the chaotic-oscillator approach used in the same developer's polyphonic synth Generate. It is monophonic, so it suits single lines.
- Best for: biting basses, leads and gritty textures.
- Look elsewhere if: you need chords or pads; use Generate or a polyphonic synth.
